Good small car rental

I rented an económico car from Adobecar for a trip around San Jose. The car worked fine, nothing fancy but got me where I needed to go. Pickup at the airport was easy enough. No real complaints, it was a smooth rental experience.

Decent price for a 4x4 SUV

I needed a 4x4 SUV for a longer trip through some rougher roads. I compared a few places and Adobecar had a good deal on one, especially since it included full coverage insurance. The total price felt fair for what I got, and the vehicle handled everything well. It was a good value purchase for sure.

Easy booking, car was okay

I booked an automático car online for a week in Costa Rica. The website was straightforward, and I picked up a compact car at their office near the airport. It took about 15 minutes to sort out the paperwork. The car itself was clean and drove fine, though it had a few dings already. I also added a portable WiFi router, which was super helpful for navigation and staying connected. Dropping off the car was quick too, no issues there. Overall, it was a pretty standard rental experience, nothing exceptional but it got the job done without any major headaches.

Hey, thinking of renting a car for my trip to CR next month. Is Adobe legit? Like, are there any hidden fees or bait-and-switch stuff once you get there?

R Rachel Walsh 1 month ago
Used them last year. No hidden stuff for me. What they quoted online was what I paid. Just make sure you understand the insurance options, that's where most places get ya.

Yeah, they're pretty standard. I've used them a few times. The insurance part is key, it can make the price jump, but that's not really 'hidden', just how rentals work there. Definitely more transparent than some other places I've tried.

I'm flying into SJO but my hotel is way out in La Fortuna. Can I just pick up the car at the airport and then drop it off at a different Adobe location closer to La Fortuna when I'm done?

R Ryan C. 2 months ago
Yep, you totally can. They have offices all over. Just make sure you select the different drop-off location when you're booking online, there might be a small fee for it but it's usually worth it for the convenience.

I've done this before from SJO to Liberia. It's not a problem at all. Just tell them upfront.

Quick question about their discounts. I see some promos floating around for long-term rentals, but where do you actually put in the code? Or is it automatic?

A Amber Z. 2 months ago
Most of the time, the discounts are just linked to specific pages, like if you click a 'long term' deal on their site, it applies automatically. I don't think I've ever actually typed in a code for them.

Yeah, I remember looking for a coupon code box too, but my discount just showed up when I went through their 'corporate link' thing. I think they prefer to set it up so you don't even need a code.

What's the deal with debit cards for the security deposit? Some places are weird about it. Do they take them, or is it strictly credit card only?

D Derek 2 months ago
I think for the actual deposit, it has to be a credit card. They're pretty strict about that, like most rental companies. You can pay the rental fee with debit, but the hold needs to be a CC, afaik.

Nah, pretty sure it's credit card only for the deposit. They need to be able to put a hold on it, and debit cards don't really work that way for them. Better to just plan on using a credit card for the deposit part.

Anyone compared Adobe to Vamos? Trying to decide between the two for a trip in February. Looking for a 4x4 SUV.

S Sam Lindqvist 2 months ago
I've used both. Vamos is good, but Adobe's fleet always seemed a bit newer to me, and their airport pickup/drop-off was super smooth. For a 4x4, I'd lean Adobe for reliability.

Adobe often has better rates if you're booking well in advance, especially with their insurance packages. Vamos is also solid though. I'd just get quotes from both for your specific dates and compare the total price, including all the insurance.
